It's aimed at those who may have done some indoor leading and looking to ease the transition to the technical world of outdoor trad-lead climbing.

What to Expect

 

Meet: 9am at a designated location each day

Drive: To a suitable crag

Whole-Part-Whole: We will use a whole-part-whole teaching method to ensure that you understand all the skills in-context and have adequate time for consolidation.

Finish: Around 4:30-5pm each day

What to bring: Warm ‘outdoor’ clothing (including a waterproof), packed lunch, water (2L), sun cream, mosquito spray, walking boots or trainers. Thermos flask. Any climbing Equipment you own. Click here for a full kit list.

What You will learn

 

  • Anchors: Building, gear Placement, removal, Selection, Attachment, Equalization.

  • Equipment use: Harness, ropes, helmet, protection, Placing & extending runners.

  • Technical Skills: Knots, Belaying leader & second, lowering

  • Using the guidebook: Crag & Climb selection, Grades

  • Confidence Building, and movement skills

  • Personal Abseiling (rappeling), use of the prussik knot & Lowering

  • Theories into practice

  • Principals of Leading, simulated Lead climbing, Leading.

  • Simple problem solving

Where

The course can be conducted in either Snowdonia, Wales or the Peak District, England. Both locations feature some of Britains best climbing and stunning countryside.
